Growing up I was very shy and still have remnants of that nature persisting inside to this day. I never wanted to be around strangers or in large groups. Was it my goofy glasses, the fact that I hated showing my knees, my self-esteem, or something else. Those who know me can attest to my yearning to stay out of the spotlight and hide in the dark corner.
I believe it is this background that has caused my minor distaste for anything "trendy". Everywhere I turn people are being conformed to what others think is "right" or "in". I know I have tried these oh so popular trends from time to time and through that have discovered that it is not as special as it is.
Originality is something that I think is getting lost in our age today. Why have vanilla when the chocolate and Nerds Blizzard is available. I feel the need to extract myself from the "popular" because others can't or won't.
Blacklisted trends:
- Crocs (lame shoes that people pay way too much for. How bad do they look? )
- Razr Phones (Everyone and their grandmas has one. They are cheaply made and I cannot stand them)
- Bluetooth Headsets/Corded Headsets for phones (Awkward when you are talking to the air in front of you. Worse when you have a cord dangling from your ear)
- iPods (They might be handy, but everyone has one and therefore are far too trendy to own)
- Hybrid Cars namely the Prius (Don't save all that much money unless you own it for several years and gas remains very high. I get 30mpg in a car that looks far cooler. Also, what is up with the Prius? It looks like a big poofy toy driving down the road. It's so ugly I pass them as fast as I can)
- Myspace (most people have a page and it just creeps me out. Too much information given out to people you don't know. Also, it's a bad thing when interviewing for a job as your potential employer may find out something they should not know.
- American Idol (Okay it's just old now)
